Truth Revealed - Why Agya Koo Is No More Acting

Related Stories

Kofi Adu, aka Agya Koo, has made a startling revelation that explains his relative absence from the screens in the last two years or so.

He told Showbiz in an interview on the side-lines of the ninth China Outbound Travel and Tourism fair (COTTM) in Beijing, China, recently that “there has been a wicked conspiracy against me” by some movie producers, in collaboration with actors, who are hell-bent on ending his career.

He said they want him out of the way, for two reasons.

“First of all is the perception that Agya Koo is expensive,” he said. “I don’t know what ‘expensive’ means since it is relative. “However, if by ‘expensive’ they mean I charge fees which they (producers) are prepared to pay Nigerian actors/actresses but are unwilling to pay same to Ghanaians, then I agree I am expensive. In that sense, I am.”

Elaborating, the multiple award-winning actor asked: “Why should Ghanaian producers pay somebody like Patience Ozorkwor, the Nigerian actress, twenty-five thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢25,000) which she, like all actors and actresses of repute, richly deserves, but consider even three thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢3,000) too much for Ghanaian actors/actresses of similar calibre and experience, such as me, Agya Koo, Nana Ama McBrown, Mercy Asiedu or Kyeiwa?”

Meanwhile, he said, “these producers are today what they are because of people like us. They have ridden on the backs of our popularity to make their millions. “With their millions, they are now able to afford Nigerian actors/actresses but think they can call us for cheap. That I have vowed not to allow, and will not allow.”

The second reason some producers want Agya Koo out of the way, the actor said, is his outspokenness against “some policies and moves that are not in the best interest of Ghana as a whole and the movie industry in particular.”

For instance, he cited, “why are we allowing the Nigerian movie producers and directors to shoot films in Ghana with Nigerian crew and cast while the same thing cannot be done in Nigeria?”

Explaining, he asked: “Do you know that a Ghanaian cannot shoot a film in Nigeria unless he agrees to use Nigerian crew?”

According to him, his unrelenting fight against some of these deeds is what is costing him and other artists roles in movies.

At this point in the interview, the popular actor fell back in his sofa in the lobby of the hotel where the interview took place. Laughing in derision, he said triumphantly, “They (producers) are coming back to us, but are doing so, Nicodemously.

“Under the cover of darkness, they are pleading with us to return. They don’t know that we know they are doing so on the strength of demands by Ghanaians in Canada, USA and other countries in the Ghanaian Diaspora who are asking: “Where are the Agya Koo movies?”

Also, he alleged that, the Nigerians, thinking they can boycott Ghana, directed their market to countries like Sierra Leone, but they soon found that the market out there was not as profitably juicy as Ghana. So they, too, are coming back.”

So, what is Agya Koo’s reaction to the come-back attempts? “Well,” he replied, “we are artists. This is our industry, so we are talking. However, we are giving them our terms. They either meet these terms or they decide they won’t: it’s up to them.”

So how do they (Agya Koo and others) survive in the meantime?

He replied: “On my part, I have floated my own production house registered as Tete Mmofra Film and Music Productions. The company has come out with a few movies to date.

Also, together, Agya Koo and the other affected artists are constantly meeting to strategise. “Even if we have to take bank loans to finance our productions, we shall do so, if only to avoid the stranglehold by producers and call their bluff.”

Born in 1970, Agya Koo has starred in hundreds of Ghana movies. As an actor, he was discovered as a comedian on the ‘Key Soap Concert Party’ at the National Theatre in Accra which aired weekly on GTV.

However, it was his entry into the film industry in 1999 that launched his flourishing career.

What I Do To Remain Popular—Rita Dominic Reveals

Nollywood is more or less like Hollywood to many countries in the African continent, and this fast rising Nigerian film industry is seen as the trailblazer. Movie stars from Nigeria are honoured and celebrated whenever they step into any African country.

For Nollywood star, Rita Dominic, the Nigerian movie industry is big because of the simple way stories are told in films.

She made this revelation while in Mauritius, where she went recently along with other movie stars like Majid Michel and Chinedu Ikedieze, better known as Aki.

According to her, “why Nollywood became big is because we tell very simple stories. Stories that anyone in the world can relate with and I think that has given us that name and recognition.”

Rita also stated that she does not get used to people admiring her work as an actress, stating that she takes every compliment as it comes and ensures that she does better jobs because, according to her, it helps in artiste’s popularity.

“I don’t get used to people telling me they are my big fans. As they always say, you are as good as your last job and you might do a job that the public may not like, and your popularity starts going down (at that moment). I just take every day as I see it. So, I never get used to anything. What I do is to get better as an actor and try to improve on my talent,” she explained.

I Never Loved Him,He Impregnated Me & I Regret It-Actress Juliet Ibrahim

Juliet Ibrahim has come out to give her side of the story and why she regretted her once happy marriage.

She claims that the marriage was a big mistake in the first place that should never have happened because she only married her Kwadwo after he got her pregnant when they were into “rough playing” things.

As a result of the unplanned pregnancy, Kwadwo agreed to marry her so that they can give the child a home and start a family together. But to her dismay and constant agony, Kwadwo’s family never supported the marriage and even failed to show up during the marriage ceremony in open display of their disapproval and lack of support.

What further made the whole issue worse was that about a year ago, Kwadwo got involved with another lady who also had fair complexion and she started competing with her for the love and affection of her husband…

Juliet got very angry at her husband because the fair complexion of the said lady was as a result of bleaching and she wondered why her husband would fall for somebody like that. LMAO!! Men are unpredictable!

They couldn’t manage the crisis that followed hence the marriage collapsed. It was also after the breakup with her husband that her relationship with Nigerian actor IK Ogbonna started.

Juliet Ibrahim’s affair with IK Ogbona is kind of shaky but the guy is hoping that they will get along in a bit.

Lydia Forson Weeps For Child Slaves

Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson says she will not relent in her effort to free underprivileged children who have been sold into slavery by their parents under the pretext of making a living.

According to Lydia, humanity has failed to address the problem of slavery, which still persists in Africa many disguised forms.

A few months ago Lydia collaborated with Right To Be Free, an organisation owned by one Eric Peasah, to rescue a 12-year-old boy who had been trafficked to the Volta Region of Ghana for child labour.

The actress embarked on a similar project last week to rescue other kids.

She took to her Facebook page yesterday to pour out her frustration about the issue of child trafficking and slavery.

“We have failed! We vowed that we would never perpetuate such injustice against humanity; but today slave trade has taken a modern sophisticated twist. Millions of people are sold daily around the world and we do very little about it. We all hear the nasty stories, cry a little and move on with our lives. Yet everywhere we turn we are surrounded by these inhumane acts.

“Today when you step out of your house, try this, for every little child you see who seems out of place i.e. selling on the street, or begging for money, ask a simple question. “Where are you from?

“Chances are they will lie. But probe further and you will see something in their eyes; a cry for help,” Lydia campaigned on behalf of the underprivileged children yesterday.

R. Kelly’s Transgender Son: Glad His Dad Finally Knows The Truth

R&B singer R. Kelly’s daughter, Jaya, has bravely came out on social media to tell the world she’s now a transgender boy. Jaya — who now goes by the name Jay — has received support from his mom, Drea Kelly, but his dad’s response has been unsupportive.

R. Kelly, 37, isn’t taking the news well that his daughter is now a transgender boy. After the R&B singer had a less-than-thrilling public response to his 13-year-old daughter now going by the name Jay and identifying as a boy, Jay is boldly speaking up about his dad’s lack of support.

Jay Kelly On Dad R.Kelly’s Response: Transgender Son Glad He Knows Truth

Jay isn’t upset that his dad is aware that he’s now a boy. When asked “You mad your dad knows?” on Q&A website ask.fm, Jay simply responded with: “Nope.” Good for him! We’re happy that Jay’s not letting his famous father’s lack of support bring him down.

On the same site, Jay also opened up with other details about his transition into becoming a boy. When asked if his mom, Drea Kelly, refers to him as a boy, Jay responded with “Yep.” Jay also said he ignores questions about his famous father “most of the time” and doesn’t think of himself as a celebrity.

Considering Jay is only 13, under a major microscope AND receiving little support from his dad, the teen is handling all of this pressure and attention SO well. We’re proud of Jay for being so open, honest and brave!

What do you think about Jay?

R.Kelly: Don’t Refer To My Transgender Son As A Male

After Jay’s brave confession, his dad has said some shocking remarks. When asked about his daughter’s transformation into a boy, the R&B star said to WGCI: “You don’t really wanna open it up by saying my daughter is becoming my son, because if that were true… Don’t even give the blogs that kind of credit. You know what I’m saying? Real talk.” Heartbreaking.

Juliet Ibrahim Divorced

http://www.celebrities-newsblog.blogspot.com/2014/06/juliet-ibrahim-divorced.html

Juliet Ibrahim, a household name in African cinema, has ended her marriage with Israel Kwadwo Sarfo Jnr, a pilot and son of Apostle Kwadwo Sarfo, the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Church, according to reports reaching  NEWS-ONE.

Though Juliet has consistently denied the reports of her divorce, a couple of big names within Ghana’s entertainment industry say she has confirmed to them in private that they started having problems two years ago and are finally divorced.

Other reports said she has started dating a popular showbiz personality in Nigeria.

Ghanaelebrities.com also reported that the actress had confirmed the divorce: “Juliet Ibrahim has found it necessary to let her fans know today that she is no more married to Kwadwo Sarfo—and the marriage ended some time ago, she confirmed this to GhanaCelebrities.Com.

The issue was also discussed on Peace Fm Entertainment Review last Saturday during which the editor for Razz, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, said he felt vindicated because when his paper broke the news of Juliet’s divorce, she vehemently denied it and accused the paper of fabrication.

Though no official reason has been given for the divorce, reports said that Juliet was always on set outside Ghana and did not have time for the husband.

Other reports also said it had to do with roles she played in a couple of movies.

In a 2010 interview with NEWS-ONE, Juliet said her husband was neither perturbed nor jealous about her roles, especially kissing role in the movies.

“He is ok, he understands me because he himself is an entertainment person, so he understands. Just that, for me personally, I don’t fancy this screen deep and wet kissing. I am not for it. I don’t want to get into it because of the spread of disease these days. I have stopped kissing long ago after my first movie ‘Crime To Christ’. But my guy is in total support of what role I play,” said the erstwhile model.

Juliet Ibrahim began her career as a model from 2004.

She started primary and secondary education in Ivory Coast and Lebanon. Later she moved to Ghana for her tertiary education at the Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL), where she once won the Miss GIL pageantry.

While at school she went on to model for Dolfins and Face-One Modelling Agency respectively.

She, however, stumbled into the Ghana movie industry in 2006 after she was called to play a role in ‘Crime to Christ’ after her first TV series.

Within a decade, Juliet has moved from a small role actress to one of Ghana’s most gifted talents and an enviable asset to the Africa movie industry.

She now produces her own movies after playing lead role in several award-winning movies.
